  • The term “yoga” as it is commonly used in the West, actually refers to Hatha Yoga. The physical practice of Hatha Yoga is just one of the many paths of yoga, which all share the common goal of working towards achieving a state of enlightenment or oneness with the universe. Hatha Yoga promotes the union of mind, body, and spirit through the practice of yoga postures (asana) and breath (pranayama). Yoga practitioners report improvements in flexibility, range of motion, strength, balance, inner peace, and overall well being.

  • Reiki energy healing is a powerful healing modality that improves the flow and balance of the system energy. The term reiki is derived from the Japanese words rei, meaning “universal”, and ki, which means “life force energy”. Although this technique was developed in the early 1900s, it is still considered an alternative from of medicine in the West. However, it is becoming increasingly common in hospitals and used in conjunction with other forms of treatments.

Reiki aids in healing by helping people become energetically balanced on a physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual level. A reiki practitioner serves as a conduit to deliver energy through gentle touch and/or hovering the hands above the body.

  • Alice offers reiki as a one-on-one session only. She will lightly place or hover her hands over a series of locations on the head, front and back of the torso, and feet. Virtual reiki sessions are also offered. Physical proximity is not necessary for efficacy because this work takes place in the energetic plane.

Being the recipient of reiki energy healing is a passive experience and the effects of a session are subjective and changeable. Sometimes people’s experiences are quite dramatic, and other times results may be very subtle. Most commonly, people report a release of stress and a feeling of deep relaxation. You may experience sensations of waves, tingles, sinking, floating, temperature fluctuations, heaviness, lightness, and openness. Recipients may also experience a heightened sense of intuition and experience memories, visions, or understandings.

    — In-person reiki sessions take place on a massage table with the client fully-clothed. Sessions may take place in Alice’s home studio (per invite-only) or she will bring the massage table to a location of your choice.

    — Virtual reiki sessions will take place with the client lying down in a peaceful and secure location

  • Alice has been practicing yoga since 2003. Alice’s first exposure to yoga was in high school and it was immediately appealing. She has always loved expressing herself through movement and took ballet lessons from ages 3-21. When Alice began her career as a first-grade teacher in underserved public schools, a regular yoga practice became a necessity. As she became increasingly passionate about yoga, Alice enrolled in a Mysore Ashtanga program, and her practice, mind, and lifestyle were completely transformed.

Being a natural-born teacher, Alice knew she wanted to share yoga with others, and received her first 200-hour RYT (registered yoga teacher) certification in 2016. She has been living her truth and teaching ever since! Alice has also been practicing reiki since 2020.

  • Many students enjoy the use of hands-on assist and adjustments in yoga instruction. This professional touch can help with the proper alignment of the body in active yoga poses, and relaxation through massage-like touch in passive yoga poses. Consent for hands-on assists and adjustments is informed, affirmative, and ongoing.

  • The word Sanskrit means 'refined' or 'made perfect’. It is a sacred language in the Hindu tradition and the original language of yoga. Each Sanskrit word is believed to have its own energy and consciousness.

Using Sanskrit in present-day yoga is a completely personal choice. Although Alice is by no means an expert, she believes that utilizing Sanskrit can help us to understand and feel the energy of the pose. Some asanas (poses) are named after sages from ancient mythology, while others are names of animals, shapes, body parts, movements, and more!
